Have you ever had a case of mistaken identity whilst travelling?
This isn’t a story I have told often, mainly because I was technically “working” at the time. I attended the Neighbours night in Melbourne, Australia. It’s dark, mainly drunk English females who have ‘Karl Kennedy’ fever.
Now apparently under these conditions I look like this guy:

LMFAO!
For those of you who are unaware this is Ricky Whittle who plays Calvin Valentine on the British Soap Hollyoaks. The closest match to me I could find was this:
Hey, I did say they were drunk and it was dark! Looks nothing like me wouldn’t you say?! I don’t think that it mattered whether I was him or just looked like him. I got asked for a photo several times and on a couple of occasions they wouldn’t even bother asking. They would just run up to me. One would hug me while the other took the picture and just run off! So this is what it’s like to be famous…
Ricky Whittle isn’t the only person I have been compared to.
Akmal Saleh
Old Spice Guy
So who is the real doppelganger here?
I am.
You travel far enough, for long enough and eventually you become a doppelganger of yourself. I’ve travelled thousands of miles across continents and oceans. I’ve met hundreds of people, watched sunsets, walked beaches and badly surfed waves. Each person, each sight and each experience changes you in some small way without you even realising. You like things you’ve always hated or do things you swore you never would. You’re a different person now and by no means is that a bad thing.
Don’t worry about the changes in yourself, embrace them. Hopefully you’ll be a better person for travelling and if you’re not, oh well, it’s who you are now.
